Jacqui Darlington BEM

I am a passionate campaigner for unpaid carers and adults with additional needs. I have lived experience of the struggles associated with caring for family members and raising a young person needing everyday support. This prompted to start the Out of Hours Club Rutland, a group for adults with additional needs who are isolated or at risk of becoming so to get together and go out ‘independently’ carrying out a range of different fun activities; from going to the cinema, theatre, bowling, for meals and having days out whilst encouraged to socialize and to be independent.
I am involved in national and local organisations including Carers UK and Healthwatch Rutland. My campaign actions have been featured in the national media including discussions on Good Morning Britain and Sky News. In 2021, I was awarded a BEM in the Queen’s New Year Honours List in recognition of services to the local community.
