Peter and Kim Moore

Peter’s choice of career in social care was influenced by his experience of being a child carer to his brother Stephen. Peter then spent his career trying to make things better for Stephen and other people. Peter trained as a social worker and spent most of his career as a senior commissioner in local authorities.Peter’s wife Kim trained as a learning disability nurse but then spent her career working as a senior manager in national disability charities, private care organisations and local authority.

We don’t believe that people or their families should have their expectations managed, but that people and services can only grow if people advocate for themselves and others and push the boundaries. We encourage the opening up to accept scrutiny and ensure that there is balance and encouragement of positive creativity and measurable outcomes.

We are supporters of the notion of the power of story telling and we want to encourage a movement which moves people and organisations from the fear of crisis which immobilises, to creativity which celebrates freedom of lateral thinking. Whilst recognising some take a scientific proven analysis approach before they act others feel there way trying, learning and reflecting. We encourage the learning that takes place in both approaches.

If we had just as many TV programs on social care as we do about cooking just think how it would generate awareness and creativity of the ingredients which make up active communities.

We believe in a skills based team approach for delivery, knowledge and self directed support. Mutual respect and open sharing of what works, what does not and lessons to be learnt. Whilst respecting where we had come from. We have a responsibility to achieve a balance with our observations of rhetoric (what people say they do) and the reality (what actually happens). People and organisations can be overwhelmed. We therefore hope that the stories that we tell will both highlight issues and acknowledge effort and care.
