It is with deep sadness we say goodnight to the Godfather of Inclusion, John O’Brien. John has been a lead thinker, storyteller, advisor, mentor, teacher & friend to people all over the world, encouraging us all to listen & imagine better so all people could be included in life. He pioneered Person Centred Planning with his friends at Inclusion Press, wrote books & thousands of articles advocating for people to be much more curious and think hard about people being in included in their communities and not segregated out into institutions. You can find much of his work here 》 https://inclusion.com/
John helped to birth In Control and continued to advise & guide us, attending so many gatherings and events generously sharing his wisdom.
John was a key part of the UK partners in policymaking
He always had time to simply be with families & people who need support to listen and motivate people powered action.
We now stand on the shoulders of this gentle giant and have to commit to keep his teachings & wisdom alive. The answer was always to collaborate, simply & intentionally listen, and we are better together.
So let’s get more curious, get more brave and be more John.
